STILL HOLDING THE HAIL CHECK?
THE CAR IS STILL LOSING VALUE.

Plenty of people cash the check and leave the car as it is. It is an easy decision to make and an expensive one to keep. Bring the check and the original estimate, and find out what the damage actually is.

“It is just a few dents.”

That is what almost everyone says. Then they go to sell the car.

Hail is never one dent. It is a pattern across the hood, roof and trunk, which are the exact panels a buyer looks at first. An appraiser does not count dents. He walks the car, sees hail, and drops the grade. A graded-down car does not get the number in your head. It gets the number in his book.

Lease it and the hail comes back as excessive wear at turn-in, on their estimate, at their price, with no say in who does the work. Trade it and the dealer subtracts what the repair costs him, then subtracts again for a car that sits longer on his lot. Sell it yourself and the first buyer walks it in daylight and uses the dents to open negotiation.

You are going to pay for the hail either way. The only question is whether insurance pays it now, or you pay it later out of your sale price.

The first estimate probably missed damage.

Most hail estimates are written by eye, one panel at a time, often outdoors. Dents get missed, and the ones that get missed are money left off the claim.

The Argus 3D scan maps the whole surface in one pass and counts every impact by panel, with depth. When that documentation shows more than the original estimate, it is the basis for a supplement rather than an argument.

A claim that has been paid is not always a claim that is closed. Bring the paperwork and we will tell you honestly whether there is anything to reopen.

STRAIGHT
ANSWERS.

Is it too late if I cashed the check months ago?

Usually not. Bring the check details and the original estimate. Reopening depends on your carrier and the file, and we will tell you plainly what we see rather than promise an outcome.

Can I just keep the money?

You can, and it is your call. Be honest with yourself about the trade: the value comes off at sale or trade-in instead, and if there is a lienholder on the vehicle your loan agreement may require the repair. Worth checking before you decide.

What if the check does not cover the full repair?

That is exactly what the supplement process is for, and it is why the documentation matters. You will know the gap before any work starts.

Do I have to use the shop my insurer recommended?

Their list is a recommendation. You choose the repair facility, and the claim pays the same either way.
