Every one of those roads points you further into the metro, where a storm week's worth of damaged cars is already ahead of you. K-7 north points away from all of it, through Basehor and Lansing, and into the county seat.

Bonner Springs is also three counties at once. The city limits spill across Wyandotte, Leavenworth and Johnson. Most weeks that is trivia. In a storm week it is the reason two neighbors on opposite ends of town can have completely different answers about what fell on them.

The NOAA Storm Events Database logs 59 confirmed hail reports within twelve miles of Bonner Springs between 2024 and 2026. Twelve miles around Lansing, straight up the same highway, produces 22. Twelve miles around Platte City, over on the Missouri side, produces nine.
